For those with bigger appetites, schools of small fish may not cut it. For fish that can be seen across the room, this is the right place. Most of the fish on this page are big, fast, and hungry. As such, they need large tanks and should only be kept with other fish that can reliably compete for food. Thankfully, all of the fish on this page are compatible with each other. Several of these species can sometimes be housed with cichlids, but doing so requires careful planning ahead of time.

Aggression: While not typically aggressive fish, these are voracious feeders and will consume anything that fits in their mouth, be it a rock or another fish. If they are raised with aggressive fish, such as cichlids, they may retain some aggression. In any case, it is best to only keep them with fish that can keep up with them.

Schooling: Everything on this list is a schooling fish. It is normally best to keep them in groups of 4 - 8 individuals, though this varies between each species. More than that begins to require a much larger tank to accommodate the increased activity.

Large bottom dwellers are also possibilities for tankmates, provided they are fed a different and larger sinking food.
