This category is for certain fish that aren't easy to fit into other lists, or don't have enough members to justify a full page. In general, these are peaceful fish that can fit into most communities.
Due to the wide array of species listed here, it is hard to give a broad statement on compatibility. Many, but not all, of the fish here should be kept as the only member of their family, not just their species. For example, cardinal fish will fight with most other cardinals. As such, a tank can have a single PJ cardinal or a single banggai cardinal.
Pajama Cardinal
Minimum Tank Size: 15 gallons
Named for their polka-dot pants, PJs range between painfully shy and daringly social. They tend to float at the top of the tank, twitching their fins. No matter the specific species, it is best to only keep one cardinal in a tank.
Banggai Cardinal
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons
Banggais tend to be more sensitive and less resilient than their cousins. Tankmates should be very peaceful and there should be no competition for food. As such, smaller tanks are preferred.
Foxface Rabbitfish
Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons
Despite having venomous spines for protection, foxfaces tend to be very passive. They are not likely to fight with other fish, but can usually hold their own. It is recommended that they are added before any other large fish.
Magnificent Foxface
Minimum Tank Size: 75 gallons
Magnificent foxes are very similar in behavior to their yellow cousins. These foxfaces can get along with most other peaceful fish and even some semi-aggressive fish. That said, foxfaces should never be housed together.
Blue-Throat Trigger (Male)
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
Unlike other triggers, the Blue-Throat is quite peaceful and shy. Males and females look distinctly different, but behave similarly. We enjoy keeping a single male with a female or few, but they are content living alone as well.
Blue-Throat Trigger (Female)
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
While they don't have the coloring that gives them their name, female Blue-Throats are lovely in their own right. While we wouldn't recommend keeping more than one male in a tank, it is possible to keep multiple females, with or without a male.
