Dwarf Angels

Dwarf angels are a wonderful choice for nearly all tanks. They are all colorful, active, and usually very hardy. Each is unique in appearance and personality, though most will spend all day swimming between rocks and nibbling at algae. They can be moderately shy at first, but will adjust quickly as they begin to recognize the faces they see often.

Typically, it is best to keep only one dwarf angel in a tank, since angels do not get along with others in their family. However, certain setups can support multiple individuals of differing species. Typically, this is possible in tanks larger than 75 gallons, but each setup and fish is different.

Pygmy Cherub Angel

Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Cherub angels are the smallest on this list, but don't let their size fool you. They are just as colorful and hardy as their cousins, wrapped in a neat little package, making them ideal for smaller tanks with especially peaceful inhabitants.

Flameback Angel

 Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons

The Flameback Angel is slightly smaller than most dwarfs, but is still very flashy. Like other angels, it enjoys swimming through caves and tunnels, but does tend to be less shy and more visible throughout the day.

Eibli Angel

 Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons

While their colors are slightly subdued compared to their cousins, Eibli Angels are more striking than you might think. Since most saltwater tanks are filled with color, their bright white stands out and draws the eye to their finer details.

Halfblack Angel

 Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons

Much like the Eibli angel, Halfblack Angels stand out because of their stark white bodies. In person, they have an almost pearly sheen to them, with vivid white-blue trim on their tail.

Coral Beauty Angel

Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons

Coral Beauties have the most color variation between individuals. Some have dramatically more orange, while others can be nearly solid indigo. However they may be patterned, each is hard to miss as they drift through the rocks.

Flame Angel

 Minimum Tank Size: 55 gallons

Flame Angels are very similar to coral beauties in behavior. They are still mostly peaceful, but can be a little sassy. Their stunning coloration makes them highly sought-after, while their small natural habitat has made them difficult to acquire.
